Meet your coach

My name is Marcus Smith Jr. I have been playing baseball since I was two years old. Growing up I always had a bat and a ball in my hand. I committed to the University of Michigan during the summer of my sophomore year. In my senior year, I was blessed to receive the 2019 High School Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

I was drafted in the third round out of high school in 2019 to the Oakland A’s. I got traded to the Texas Rangers shortly after and played for them through 2025, working my way up to Triple A. After finishing my contract with the Rangers, my priority was to be as close to home as possible. I went to play for the Kansas City Monarchs in my home city and loved my time there. I was picked up by the Cincinnati Reds and was with them for the remainder of the 2026 season.

In my years of playing pro ball, I got to learn from a lot of great coaches. My goal is to pass on that knowledge to future generations. From previous experience in teaching hitting and fielding lessons to kids of all ages, I understand that everybody has their own skill set and learning style. My priority is to evaluate what works best individually for every kid and develop a game plan for teaching them in a way that makes sense and is productive.

Now that I’m back home in Kansas City, I’m excited for this next chapter!
